Two Illinois Baseball Players - Hanson, Hjellming Sign With Valpo Baseball

Valparaiso University baseball announced the signing of two Illinois student athletes for 2012 - Jacob Hanson and Andrew Hjellming.

Hanson is a 6'1" catcher from Aurora Christian HS in Aurora Illinois and hit .395 with 20 extra base hits and 29 rbi's as a junior. 

Hjellming is a 6'6" right-handed pitcher from Wheaton Warrenville South HS in Wheaton Illinois and also a member of the the Wheaton Warrenville South football team.  Andrew was named to the All-DVC academic team in 2011.

Sully Stadler Signs National Letter of Intent With Indiana University Baseball

The Indiana University baseball program announced the signing of left handed pitcher Sully Stadler to a National Letter of Intent for the 2012 baseball season.

Stadler is a 6'5" lefty from Glenbrook South HS who pitches and plays outfield.  Stadler hit .403 with 3 dingers and was 4-1 on the mound in 2011.  Sully joins his brother Walker who is a redshirt sophomore at Indiana.  Stadler lives in Glenview Illinois.

Southern Illinois Miners Baseball Sign Four in Frontier League Transactions

The Southern Illinois Miners Frontier League baseball team is keeping busy in the off season by signing four players for 2012.

The Miners signed three pitchers - James Albury, Albert Ayala, Anthony Collazzo and 1B/OF slugger Matt Fields.

Fields returns to the Miners after playing 57 games for the Miners last season before breaking a bone in his hand.  Fields hit .275 with 17 homers and 45 rbi's in 57 games.

Tyler Perkowitz Signs With Miami Ohio Baseball

The Miami Ohio baseball program signed four high school seniors to National Letters of Intent for the 2012 season, one from Illinois - Tyler Perkowitz.


Infielder Tyler Perkowitz is from Hersey HS and lives in Mt. Prospect Illinois.  Perkowitz hit .301 with six triples as a junior setting the school's season and career record in triples.

Kevin Ross Signs National Letter of Intent With Michigan Baseball

University of Michigan head baseball coach Rich Maloney announced the signing of Kevin Ross to a National Letter of Intent to play baseball for the Wolverines for 2012-2013.

Kevin is an infielder from Skokie Illinois and played his high school baseball at Niles West.

Ross received the New Balance Kevin Youkilis "Heart and Hustle" award for his performance at the Area Code Games and was also named to the All-Area Code team at third base.

Butler Baseball Signs Catcher Chris Marras to National Letter of Intent

Butler University head baseball coach Steve Farley announced the signing of catcher Chris Marras from Vernon Hills HS in Illinois to a National Letter of Intent.

Marras is a two-time all-conference player and was named to the Daily Herald All-Area Team along with being named the Pioneer Press Player of the Year. 

Chris lives in Vernon Hills Illinois.

Catcher Zach Little from Washington HS in Illinois.  Zach is a right handed hitting catcher and a two-time All Mid-Illini Conference selection.

Infielder Jacob Stewart from Mt. Zion HS in Illinois.  Jacob is a 6'3" infielder/outfielder.

Right handed pitcher Caleb Wilkerson from Festus HS in Missouri.

Right handed pitcher John Williams from Kansas City Missouri.

Elder and Koziol Sign National Letters of Intent With Arizona Baseball

The University of Arizona head baseball coach Andy Lopez announced the signing of two Illinois baseball players, Kevin Elder and Ryan Koziol, to National Letters of Intent to attend the University of Arizona in 2012.

Kevin Elder is a right handed pitcher from Westminster Christian HS and lives in Elgin Illinois.

Ryan Koziol is an infielder/right handed pitcher from Providence Catholic HS (transferred from Brother Rice HS) and lives in Orland Park Illinois.

Indiana State University Signs Three Illinois Baseball Players for 2012

Indiana State University head baseball coach Rick Heller announced the signing of three baseball players from Illinois to National Letters of Intent for 2012.


RHP Bobby Boynton from St. Teresa High School, lives in Decatur Illinois.  Bobby went 14-3 with a 1.57 ERA and 176 strikeouts in three seasons at St. Teresa.

1B/OF Mike Fitzgerald from Lincoln Land Community College, lives in Rochester Illinois.  Mike was an All-American, All-Region and All-Conference player at Lincoln Land.

RHP Rick Martin from Crystal Lake South High School, lives in Lake in the Hills Illinois.  Rick throws in the high 80's from a 3/4 arm slot, has a hard slider and should see action right away at ISU.

Nick Altobella Inks with University of Alabama Birmingham Baseball

St. Laurence High School left handed pitcher Nick Altobella has signed his National Letter of Intent with the University of Alabama Birmingham announced by head baseball coach Brian Shoop.

Altobella finished his junior season at St. Laurence in Burbank Illinois with a 7-1 record and a 1.57 ERA.  Nick had 72 strikeouts in 50 2/3rd innings last spring.

Nick will join a few other Illinois baseball players who are currently at UAB - Matt Morse, Dillon Napoleon, Ryan Prinzing and Jeff Schalk.

Central Michigan Basebll Signs Adam Collins to National Letter of Intent for 2012

Central Michigan baseball coach Steve Jaksa announced the signing of Adam Collins from Joliet Catholic to a National Letter of Intent last week.

Collins is an infielder who coach Jaksa says "Adam is a kid that has not played a lot of baseball, but is a very, very good athlete."

Adam lives in Plainfied, Illinois.

The Western Illinois University baseball program announced the signing of eight to national letters of intent for 2012.

RHP Robby Nunn from Marion Catholic High School.  Nunn is 6'4" and is from Crete, Illinois.

RHP Alex Doty from Elgin High School. The 6'2" pitcher lives in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

RHP Keelan Price from BlackHawk Community College.  Keelan is a 6'6" righty who attended Rock Island Allman and lives in Moline Illinois.

LHP Aaron Michel from St. Teresa High School and lives in Decatur Illinois.

RHP John White from John Wood Community College.  The 6'6" pitcher attended Lincoln Community High School and lives in New Holland Illinois.

Infielder Gabriel Acevado is from Portage High School in Indiana.

Normal CornBelters Independent Baseball Tryouts

The Normal CornBelters have announced a tryout date of November 12, 2011 for the independent baseball club located in Normal Illinois.  The tryout will be held at Shorter University in Rome GA and start at 1:00 pm.  The CornBelters will also hold three more tryouts, one in Alabama in December, one in the Chicagoland area in March 2012 and one in Normal in May 2012.

RiverHawks Baseball Trades Cooper To Gary RailCats

The Rockford RiverHawks announced the trade of infielder David Cooper to the Gary SouthShore RailCats left-handed pitcher Jeremy Hauer.


Hauer was 2-1 with a 3.65 ERA in 43 appearances last year for Gary.  Hauer is from Sherrard Illinois and went to Rock Island Alleman High School.  Hauer has spent three seasons in independent ball since 2009 with a 1-5 record and a 5.67 ERA.

Southern Illinois Baseball Alum Jason Frasor Signed by Chicago White Sox for 2012

Southern Illinois University baseball alumnus Jason Frasor had his option picked up by the Chicago White Sox for the 2012 season.  Frasor was traded to the Sox from the Blue Jays on July 27th.



Frasor pitched three seasons at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and was drafted in the 33rd round by the Tigers in 1999.
