2012 Illinois State Redbirds High School Showcase Baseball Camps

The Illinois State Redbird baseball program high school showcase baseball camps for 2012 are listed below.  All camps will be held at Duffy Bass Field in Normal, Illinois.  Camps will provide position specific instruction, a pro-style workout, game play and a post camp evaluation.  Cost is $175.00.

Saturday August 25, 2012 for players entering the 9th through 12th grades.
Camp starts at 9:00 am, check in at 8:30 am, and ends at 5:00 pm with lunch provided to each player. 

Saturday October 27, 2012 for players entering the 9th through 12th grades. 
Camp starts at 9:00 am, check in at 8:30 am, and ends at 5:00 pm with lunch provided to each player.

Northern Illinois Baseball Adds Four More for 2012

The Northern Illinois University baseball program added four more student athletes to the baseball program.

The Huskies signed two players from Illinois and two Junior College transfers.

Below are the latest to sign with NIU:

LHP John Savarise.  John is from Stevenson High School and was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 33rd round of the 2012 MLB Draft.  Savarise lives in Lincolnshire, Illinois.

Outfielder Brandon Mallder.  Brandon attended St. Laurence High School and lives in Bridgview, Illinois.

LHP Brody Justice.  Brody is a transfer from Paris Junior College in Texas, played for the Dekalb County Liners and lives in Frisco, Texas.

Outfielder Landon Tenhagen.  Landon is a transfer from Madison College and lives in Burlington, Wisconsin.

CornBelter Baseball's Rich Mascheri Signs Yankees

Normal CornBelter left handed pitcher Rich Mascheri has had his contract purchased by the New York Yankees last week.  

Mascheri had 10 saves with 2.29 era in 26 appearances this season with the CornBelters.  Mascheri also represented the West Division at the Frontier League All-Star game.  

Rich played college baseball at Western Illinois University and lives in Wauconda, Illinois.

Illinois Alum Matt Milroy Suspended for 50 Games on Drug Violation

Illinois alum Matt Milroy was suspended for 50 games for testing positive for the use of a banned substance, Methylhexeanamine.

Milroy was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 11th round out of the University of Illinois in 2012.  Milroy was 2-3 with a 4.11 era with the Jamestown Jammers, Miami's short season Class A this season.

Matt was 5-10 with a 5.72 era in three seasons at the University of Illinois.

Jon Anderson Named as Dundee-Crown Baseball Coach

Jon Anderson will take over the Dundee-Crown baseball program as he was named head baseball coach this week.

Anderson becomes the fourth head baseball coach in six years at Dundee-Crown after coaching the summer team and securing a job as a teacher in District 300.

Anderson was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 1999 draft and played three seasons in the minors.  Jon also was the player/manager of the Rockford RiverHawks in 2002.

Illinois Baseball Players Fairing Well With Dubois County Bombers

Three college baseball players from Illinois are contributing to the Dubois County Bombers success this season as the Bomber play for the Prospect League Championship this week.

Third baseman Cody Daily hit .263 this summer with 2 homers, 7 doubles and 30 rbi's is from Granite City, Illinois and attends Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.  Cody also was voted to the mid-season all-star team.

Pitchers Ryan Billo, Nelson Marchan and Jon Rashid have also combined for four victory's on the mound for the Bombers.  Billo is from Orland Park, Illinois and attends the University of Evansville, Marchan is from Elmwood Park, Illinois and attends Central Methodist and Rashid is from Skokie, Illinois and attends North Central College.

Illinois' Mike Giovenco Picks up Win for the Kane County Coug

Mike Giovenco picked up a win throwing a scoreless ninth inning as the Kane County Cougars come back from a 4-1 deficit and win 5-4 over Cedar Rapids.

Kane County tied the game with three straight singles by Dean Espy, Kevin David and Justin Trapp.  Jack Lopez followed with at three run triple to tie the game and scored the game winner as the Cedar Rapids center fielder dropped the ball as he attempted to throw to the plate.

Giovenco, who is from River Grove, Illinois and attended North Park, moved his record to 3-2 on the season.  Mike currently has a 4.82 earned run average on the season.
