South Siders set to play 34 games, beginning March 5
CHICAGO -- The second Cactus League season for the White Sox at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Ariz., begins on Friday, March 5 when the South Siders play host to the Dodgers, according to the full Spring Training schedule announced on Wednesday.
Actually, it's a home game of sorts for both teams, who share the state-of-the-art facility during Spring Training.
Currently, the White Sox are set to play 34 games during Spring Training 2010, with five of those games coming against the Cubs. Two of those games will be played at Cashman Field in Las Vegas, Nev., on March 12 and 13, marking the second straight year the Chicago rivals have matched up in Nevada.
Those three other games between the two teams will take place on Saturday, March 6 in Mesa, Sunday March 7 in Glendale and on Friday, March 19 in Glendale. The White Sox have 16 games scheduled to be played at Camelback Ranch.
One schedule change for the White Sox this spring is two night games taking place at Camelback Ranch. The first one will be played on Monday, March 15 against the Royals, followed by the Angels on Monday, March 29. Both of those games begin at 7:05 p.m. MT.
Cincinnati moves to Arizona for Spring Training and plays host to the White Sox on March 14 in Goodyear, Ariz., in the two teams' lone meeting. The White Sox have split-squad games against the Dodgers and Cubs on March 6, against the Dodgers and Cubs on March 12 and against the Brewers and Cubs on March 13.
Cactus League action closes for the White Sox with a split-squad game against the Mariners on Thursday, April 1. The team also will play an exhibition game in Charlotte, N.C., vs. the Knights, the White Sox Triple-A affiliate on that same day.The White Sox finish up their Spring Training schedule with a two-game set vs. the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field on Friday, April 2 and Saturday, April 3.The White Sox open the regular season in Chicago vs. the Cleveland Indians on April 5 at U.S. Cellular Field.
