EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana senior pitcher/infielder Tyler Choate (Carmi, Illinois) has been named to the preseason All-American second team as a utility player by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Choate, who was a Daktronics second team All-Region and All-GLVC utility player, saw action at four different positions during his first year with the Eagles. He was USI's number one starter, finishing the season with a 7-3 overall record with a 3.22 ERA and 76 strike outs in 16 appearances and 15 starts.
At the plate, Choate sparked USI in the top third of the line-up. He had a team-best 10 home runs and ranked second with a .357 batting average. The 2009 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Newcomer to Watch also had 52 runs scored, 15 doubles, four triples, and 37 RBIs.
