Chicago Cubs filing for arbitration

Baseball in Illinois News

Infielders Ryan Theriot, Jeff Baker, and Mike Fontenot; catcher Koyie Hill; and pitchers Carlos Marmol, Tom Gorzelanny, Angel Guzman and Sean Marshall are all arbitration-eligible. Marmol, who will be the Cubs' closer this year, and Theriot, who is coming off a season in which he set career highs in several categories, including home runs, RBIs and games played, were expected to receive the biggest pay raises.

All have at least three years but less than six years of service in Major League Baseball. Fontenot became eligible as a "Super Two" player, because he finished in the top 17 percent of players with at least two but less than three years of Major League service. Fontenot has two years 139 days of service time.

The players and the clubs each submit salary figures on Tuesday. Hearings will be held Feb. 1-21.
