The Boston Red Sox purchased the contract of centerfielder Matty Johnson from the Gateway Grizzlies.
Johnson hit .313 with 57 hits, 6 doubles and three triples in his rookie season with the Grizzlies.
Matty Johnson is the second player in two years to have their contract purchased by a Major League Baseball Club. Joe Agreste was picked up by the San Diego Padres last season.

The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper has ranked Illinois State University at #40 in the Division I baseball recruiting poll for 2010-2011.
Eleven players which include seven freshman, three junior college transfers and one division I transfer make up the recruiting class for Illinois State.
Three of the freshman, catcher Mike Hollenbeck - 14th round by the Boston Red Sox, pitcher Johnny Lieske - 35th round by the Texas Rangers, infielder Brock Stewart - 40th round by the New York Mets, turned down professional contracts to join the Redbirds this season.
Chad Parker has been named the 2010 Northern League Manager of the Year as he led the JackHammers to a 20 game improvement over 2009 finishing the season with a 53-47 record.
In 2009 Parker was also named Manager of the Year in the Frontier League with River City Rascals.
Parker has also signed a two-year extension from the JackHammers which will keep him in Joliet through 2012.
Josh Short (Lake County Fielders Outfielder) has been voted as the 2010 Northern League Rookie Player of the Year.
Short finished the season with a .326 batting average (4th in the Northern League), 26 home runs (4th in the Northern League) and 84 rbi's (2nd in the Northern League).
The 6'2" 200lb outfielder was drafted out of high school in 2005 by the Florida Marlins but did not sign. Short went on to play at Mount Hood Community College in Oregon and signed with the Marlins in 2007.
The Lake County Fielders are part of the Northern League, an independent professional baseball league, and owned in part by Kevin Costner.
Trinity College announces that Justin Huisman will take over the Head Coaching duties replacing his brother Jason who will take over as Assistant Baseball Coach, replacing Justin.
Illinois State University baseball will hold fall and winter hitting clinics for elementary, junior high and high school aged participants.
The first clinic will start Sunday October 24th and sessions will meet once a week until November 22nd. An additional hitting clinic will start Sunday January 16th and go five weeks, meeting once a week.

University of Illinois left handed pitcher Corey Kimes was named to Baseball America's list of top ten Prospect in the Prospect League.
Kimes, a junior, was named the #9 prospect by going 5-1 with a 2.64 era for the Springfield Sliders this summer.
The Chicago State University Cougar baseball program announced four junior college transfers will join the team for the 2010-2011 school year.
JUCO transfers include outfielders Rick Jordan (New Lenox, IL) and Weston Lewis, catcher Jack Bobillo and utility player Ryan Maholtra.
The transfers will join David Sindwald (Lansing, IL), Tony Sanchez (Plainfield, IL), Steven O'Hair, A.J. Reyes, Andrew Watson, Dylan Sterrett and Gavin Trevino to the Chicago State baseball team.
The Olivet Nazarene Tigers baseball program announced the signing of two players, Luke Rojas from St. Charles East and Joey Pendolino from Plainfield North High.
Rojas, the first to sign, is a shortstop who ended his season with 43 hits, 2 home runs, 22 rbi's and 16 stolen bases.
Pendolino is a 6'1" catcher ranked in the top ten at his position by the "Prep Baseball Report".
The Southern Illinois Miners and the Windy City Thunderbolts end their seasons in the first round of the Frontier League Playoffs.
The Thunderbolts season came to an end in the East Division thanks to the Travers City Beach Bums capturing the series 3 games to 1 with a 5-3 victory.
In the West Division, the Southern Illinois Miners held a 2-0 series lead before falling in game five 3-0 to the River City Rascals.
Both the Miners and the Thunderbolts captured the best records in their divisions, Miners going 64-32 and Thunderbolts at 56-38.
Dan Szmergalski, a resident of Oak Lawn and a graduate of Mt. Greenwood school will succeed Tim Lyons as the new Head Varsity Baseball coach at Brother Rice High School.
Smergalski spent three years at the sophomore level including two years as the head sophomore baseball coach.
The Frontier League announced it's post season awards and honors for 2010:
Charlie Lisk of the Gateway Grizzlies was voted the Morgan Burkhart Award winner as the Most Valuable Player. Lisk set the Frontier League's career record for home runs along with being selected as the starting catcher for the All Star team three years in a row. Lisk is leading the league this season in rbi's with 87, second in home runs with 21 and is hitting .315.
Joe Augustine from the Southern Illinois Miners won the Brian Tolberg Award as Pitcher of the Year by leading the league with a 1.97 ERA and 121 strikeouts. Joe is tied for the lead league with 10 wins.
Dustin Williams from the Windy City Thunderbolts won the Jason Simontacchi Rookie of the Year Award as a Pitcher by posting a 7-3 record, 2.41 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 100.2 innings.

Pitcher/Third Baseman Mike Monahgan from Geneva High School has verbally committed to play baseball at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville according to Geneva coach Matt Holm.
Chicago State University announced the addition of four Junior College tranfers for the 2010-2011 school year.
Joining the Cougars this fall are catcher Jack Bobillo (Michigan City, IN), outfielders Rick Jordan (New Lenox, IL) and Weston Lewis (Denver, CO) and utility player Ryan Maholtra (Oakville, Ont.).
The latest additions will join David Sindewald (Lansing, IL), Tony Sanchez (Plainfield, IL), Steven O'Hair (Phoenix, AZ), A.J. Reyes (Winter Haven, FL), Andrew Watson (Shawnee, OK), Dylan Sterrett (Frontier, IN) and Gavin Trevino (East Kentwood, MI).
North Central College will host a fall prospect for high school juniors and seniors on October 24th 2010.
The camp will be held at North Central's Zimmerman Stadium and will be staffed by North Central coaches and players.
Campers will be evaluated and will be able to attend a variety of instructional sessions as well as a scrimmage.
The cost of the camp is $45 for early registration and $50 on the day of the camp. The camp will run from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

SIU head baseball coach Dan Callahan announced Tuesday that P.J. Finigan as the new Pitching Coach for the Salukis.
Finigan was an infielder/pitcher for the Salukis from 2002-2005 and a seventh round draft pick for the Detroit Tigers.
Illinois State University will host a high school baseball showcase camp at Duffy Bass Field in Normal, IL on October 30th 2010. The camp is open to High School players, starts at 9:00 am and ends at 5:00 pm and costs $165.00.
The camp is designed for serious high school players who want to find out what it takes to play at the college level.
