League MVP Return to the Miners

The Southern Illinois Miners Annouced that 2009 Frontier League MVP Joey Metropoulos has re-signed with the Miners for the 2010 Season.

Metropoulos is coming off of the greatest offensive season in team history in which he was named the MVP and voted to the post-season all-star team. The first baseman turned outfielder led the league in total bases (224) and home runs (31) in 2009. His .651 slugging percentage ranked second in the league behind his recently acquired teammate Ernie Banks.


In two-and-a-half seasons with the Miners, Metropoulos has hit .318 with 60 home runs and 180 RBIs. He is also the team’s all-time leader in hits (263), doubles (54), slugging percentage (.600), runs (170), walks (101) and extra-base hits (114).
