Riverhawks Trade for Ken Berry's Son "Boomer"

From Baseball in Illinois News Sources

The RiverHawks announced Monday that they have acquired infielder Layne “Boomer” Berry from the Sioux City Explorers of the independent American Association for a player to be named later. Berry is the son of former White Sox center fielder Ken “The Bandit” Berry, who won two Gold Gloves in a major-league career that lasted from 1962 to 1975.

Boomer Berry signed with the White Sox in 2004 as an undrafted free agent out of Central Missouri State and spent two years with the Chicago organization.

RiverHawks co-owner and director of baseball operations Dave Ciarrachi said Berry will have a chance to be the team’s everyday second baseman and No. 2 hitter.

Berry, a left-handed hitter, has averaged a strikeout once every 16 at-bats in his career and has twice hit better than .300. In addition, he has stolen at least 11 bases in each of his five professional seasons.
