Dan Ludwig Named to Louisville Slugger TPX Pre-Season All-American Team

Left handed pitcher Dan Ludwig, Naperville Central High School, has been named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger TPX Pre-Season All-American team.  Dan has complied a 15-1 record, a 1.74 ERA, 8 complete games and 91 strikeouts with only 9 walks in 76 1/3rd innings over the past two seasons.

Dan has committed to play baseball at Belmont University.

Multi Position Players:

Joe Filomeno, St. Rita High School, .461 batting average, 13 doubles, 14 home runs, 64 rbi's at the plate.  On the mound, 7-2 record, 3.06 ERA, 75 strikeouts in 63 2/3rds innings.  Joe is signed with Louisville.

Keelin Rasch, Harrisburg High School, .471 batting average, 10 doubles, 9 homers, 50 rbi's at the plate.  From the bump, 6-0 record, 2.03 ERA, throws low 90's.


The Pre-Season All-Americans are chosen through coaches nominations and takes up to three months to complete.

2011 Draft Preview for Illinois College Baseball Players

Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's list of college players who have a chance of being drafted in the first two rounds of the 2011 MLB June draft.


Tony Zych
Junior Right handed pitcher Tony Zych from the University of Louisville.  The 6'3" 188 lb pitcher earned the Cape Cod league Most Outstanding Pro Prospect and the Most Outstanding Relief Pitcher awards last summer by collecting 12 saves and 29 K's in 20 1/3rd innings.  Tony is from St. Rita High School and lives in Monee IL.





 Nick Martini

Kansas State University junior outfielder Nick Martini who was named the Big 12 Player of the Year led the conference in hitting as a sophomore along with being ranked the #3 prospect in the M.I.N.K. league last summer.  The 5'11" 192 lb Martini is from Prairie Ridge High School and lives in Crystal Lake IL.




Kyle Gaedele


Valparaiso University outfielder Kyle Gaedele hit .373 with 7 homers, 19 doubles 63 rbi's and 17 stolen bases as a soph.  The 6'3" 225 lb Gaedele was named as the Top Prospect in the Northwoods League last summer with the Madison Mallards.  Kyle is from Rolling Meadows High School and lives in Arlington Heights, IL.








Ian Gardeck


Right handed pitcher Ian Gardeck who sits at 93-94 mph and has touched 98 mph transferred from the University of Dayton to Angelina Junior College in Texas.  Ian is from Crystal Lake South High School and lives in Lake in the Hills IL.

Tony Zych Named Named Top Reliever in Cape Cod League

RHP Tony Zych was presented the Russ Ford Award as the Cape Cod Baseball League's Outstanding Relief Pitcher and also earned the Robert A. McNeese Award as the Outstanding Pro Prospect, the two most prestigious awards in the Cape Cod League.

Zych recored 12 saves in 20.1 innings and finished with a 0.89 ERA for the summer.

 Tony is from Monee, IL, attended St. Rita High School and is currently at Louisville.

Ping Baseball Pre-Season All Americans From Illinois



Ping baseball pre-season all-americans from Illinois:

Second Team
DH - Phil Wunderlich - Louisville - Phil hit .369 with 17 doubles, 18 home runs and 74 RBI for the Cardinals last season.  Phil attended Downers Grove South High School in Illinois.

Third Team

Utility - Richie Derbak - Eastern Illinois University - Richie hit .417 with 12 doubles, 5 home runs and 41 RBI.  Derbak as a pitcher was 6-3 with a 3.76 ERA in 25 appearances for the Panthers.  Richie attended Trenton-Wesclin High School in Illinois

Chicago native led the Cards in 2009 with a .367 average and was second with 18 home runs and 78 RBI

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville junior third baseman Phil Wunderlich was named Preseason Third Team All-America on Wednesday afternoon by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.


A Chicago native, Wunderlich led the Cardinals in hitting in 2009 with a .367 average, was second on the team with 18 home runs and 78 RBI and was third on the team with 18 doubles en route to being named Second Team All-America by the NCBWA and Second Team All-BIG EAST. A designated hitter on the 2010 NCBWA Preseason All-American Team, Wunderlich split time at DH and left field in 2009 but is projected as the Cards' starting third baseman for 2010.

Phil Wunderlich attended Downers Grove South High School in Illinois.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville baseball head coach Dan McDonnell announced the signing of shortstop Alex Chittenden (Indianapolis, Ind.), catcher Jake DePew (Granite City, Ill.) and right-handed pitchers Dace Kime (Defiance, Ohio) and Jeff Thompson (Greenville, Ind.) to National Letters-of-Intent during the 2010 early signing period.

The quartet is the first group of signees in the Cards' 2010 recruiting class with the remaining signees to be announced in the coming days. All of the signees in the Cards' 2010 recruiting class will report to campus next fall and be eligible to compete in the 2011 season.

Jake DePew

Position: Catcher
Hometown/HS: Granite City, Illinois./Granite City High School

DePew, a 6-1, 215-pound catcher, is a preseason All-American and All-State honoree at Granite City, where he is coached by his father Daren DePew. He attended the Perfect Game National Showcase and is the No. 4 rated prospect in Illinois. As a junior, he hit .558 with seven home runs, 21 doubles, 53 RBI and 46 runs scored. As a sophomore, he hit .405 with a pair of home runs, 12 doubles and 28 RBI, and that season followed a freshman campaign which featured a .337 average and 20 RBI. With his athletic build, good bat speed as a hitter and good arm strength behind the plate, he has also earned All-Metro and All-Conference honors. He plays summer baseball for the St. Louis Pirates. Along with his three years of baseball, he has also lettered in football and basketball at Granite City.
