Minnesota Gopher Baseball Signs Two from Illinois

The University of Minnesota Gopher baseball program signed two Illinois players to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period in November 2012.

Right handed pitcher Cody Campbell attended Naperville Central HS and was a member of the Midwest Future Games Illinois roster this past summer.  Cody lives in Naperville Illinois.

Brian Glowicki is a right handed pitcher from Downers Grove South HS and went 8-2 with a 1.20 ERA as a junior.  Brian lives in Downers Grove Illinois.  

Both Cody and Brian were members of the Downers Grove Longshots summer team.

Creighton Baseball Signs Three from Illinois

Creighton University baseball announced the signing of three baseball players from Illinois to National Letters of Intent on November 15th.

Right handed pitcher David Gerber from Neuqua Valley HS, David lives in Naperville, Illinois.

Nick Lopez, an infielder from Naperville Central HS, Nick also lives in Naperville, Illinois.

Right handed pitcher Kevin Smith from St. Laurence HS in Burbank Illinois.

Dan Ludwig Named to Louisville Slugger TPX Pre-Season All-American Team

Left handed pitcher Dan Ludwig, Naperville Central High School, has been named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger TPX Pre-Season All-American team.  Dan has complied a 15-1 record, a 1.74 ERA, 8 complete games and 91 strikeouts with only 9 walks in 76 1/3rd innings over the past two seasons.

Dan has committed to play baseball at Belmont University.

Multi Position Players:

Joe Filomeno, St. Rita High School, .461 batting average, 13 doubles, 14 home runs, 64 rbi's at the plate.  On the mound, 7-2 record, 3.06 ERA, 75 strikeouts in 63 2/3rds innings.  Joe is signed with Louisville.

Keelin Rasch, Harrisburg High School, .471 batting average, 10 doubles, 9 homers, 50 rbi's at the plate.  From the bump, 6-0 record, 2.03 ERA, throws low 90's.


The Pre-Season All-Americans are chosen through coaches nominations and takes up to three months to complete.

Naperville Central Wins IHSA Class 4A Baseball State Championship

Naperville Central High School (38-4) defeated Chicago St. Rita (32-10) 10-4 and wins the IHSA Class 4A baseball state championship.

Naperville Central took an early lead in the top of the second with two unearned runs.  In the fourth, Central struck again with two in the top of the fourth with two more unearned runs, including an interference call on the St. Rita third baseman, giving Central a 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth St. Rita struck back and tied the game at four with a double from Zach Soria, a two run homer from Mark Payton, a single from Stefano Belmonte, a walk to Joe Filomeno and a double from Anthony Zawaski.

In the top of the fifth Naperville Central put the game away by scoring five runs with six singles, a hit batter and a sac fly.  In the sixth Naperville added one more with an rbi double from Bobby Czarnowski.

Shane Colon picked up the win on the mound allowing four runs on five hits while striking out 10.

Naperville Central finished the season 38-4 while St. Rita ended it's season at 32-10.

High School Pre-Season Baseball All-Americans from Illinois

Jake DePw, Mark Payton, Shane Conlon, Kevin Kozial head up the players from Illinois on the Pre-Season Louisville Slugger All-American Team.

First Team Pre-Season All-Americans from Illinois

C - Jake DePew - Granite City High School - Last season he hit .558 with 21 doubles, 7 home runs and 53 RBI.  Jake has signed with Louisville.

OF - Mark Payton - St. Rita High School - Last sping Mark hit .438 with 10 doubles, 4 triples, 12 home runs and 40 RBI.  Mark has signed with Arizona State.

LHP/1B - Shane Conlon - Naperville Central High School - Last season Shane hit .396 with 16 doubles, 3 triples, and 4 home runs.  On the mound Shane was 9-1 with 67 strikeouts in 52 innings.  Shane has signed with Kansas State.

SS/P - Kevin Koziol - Brother Rice High School - Last season Kevin was 5-2 with a 2.64 ERA, 47 strikeouts in 45 innings.  At the plate Koziol hit .356 with 8 doubles and 8 home runs.


Honorable Mention

RHP - Miles Quintal - O'Fallon Township High School - Last season Miles went 11-2 with a 2.61 ERA.

3B - Michael Failoni - Edwardsville High School - Michael hit .487 with 12 doubles, 6 home runs and 61 RBI.

OF/RHP - Dontrell Rush - Harlan Community Academy - Dontrell hit .386 with 5 home runs and on the mound Dontrell went 7-3 with 105 strikeouts in 74 innings pitched.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina junior right-hander Colin Bates earned a spot on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Pro-Line Athletic Preseason All-America team, which was released Wednesday. Bates, who was 4-4 with a 3.14 ERA and six saves last season, was named to the third team as a relief pitcher.


A Naperville, Illinois., native, Bates worked 60 innings over 34 appearances a year ago and struck out 59, while walking only 19. He ranked second in the ACC and eighth nationally in appearances and was eighth in the ACC in saves. Bates, who was named to the 2009 All-ACC Academic Team, will likely transition to the Tar Heels' weekend rotation this season

Colin attened Naperville Central High School in Illinois.
