The Dekalb County Liners captured the 2012 Midwest Collegiate League pennant today defeating the Chicago Zephyrs 8-1. Dekalb ended the regular season with a 29-15 record.
The Liners played the past two seasons in the Prospect League moving to the Midwest Collegiate League in 2012. Dekalb plays their home games at Founders Field in Sycamore.
Lyons Township's Max Larsen threw six innings and drove in three runs as Lyons defeated Joliet Catholic 7-3 to win the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association 2012 Phil Lawler Summer Championship.
Lyons has won the summer tournament four times since 2002.
Mike Lorenz and Tom Prescott both had two hits for LT. Lorenz was named the tournament MVP.
It's down to the final four team at the 2012 Phil Lawler Summer State Finals with St. Lawrence playing Joliet Catholic and Lyons Township playing Jacobs today at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois.
The two winners will meet for the summer championship at 7:00 pm tonight at Benedictine.
Two baseball players from Illinois will participate in the 2012 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game and events.
Outfield Sam Travis from Orland Park, Illinois will start in left field for the East Division All-Stars. Sam is on Yarmouth-Dennis and attends Indiana University.
Eric Jagielo, Downers Grove, Illinois, will participate in the Home Run Contest for the East Division. Eric is on Harwich and attends Notre Dame.
Luke Harrison of the Dekalb County Liners tossed a 1-0 no hitter defeating the Rockford Foresters 1-0 Sunday in Sycamore Illinois.
Harrison tossed 109 pitches and struck out three moving his record in the Midwest Collegiate Baseball League to 6-0 on the season with a 1.39 ERA.
Luke will be a sophomore at Indiana University this fall and lives in Glenview, Illinois.
The Dekalb County Liners are in their third season as a summer collegiate baseball team. The Liners participated in the Prospect League their first two seasons and moved to the Midwest Collegiate League in 2012. The win moved Dekalb 1/2 in first place with a 25-14 record on the season.
The Midwest Collegiate League forced the Will County CrackerJacks and Illinois Lincolns to resign from the league due to failure to make proper payments to league umpires and additional vendors.
The owner/general manager of the CrackerJacks and Lincolns is a familiar name with non payment to vendors, Mr. Jamie Toole. Mr. Toole was the general manager of the now defunct Joliet JackHammers who owed thousands of dollars to the city of Joliet and others.
