Dan Durkin Signs with Michigan State Baseball


Michigan State University head baseball coach Jake Boss announced the signing of infielder Dan Durkin to a National Letter of Intent for the 2014 season.

Durkin is a "tough, hard-nosed player, and a good athlete who can do a lot of things" according to Boss.  Dan is from Victor J. Andrew High School and lives in Tinley Park Illinois.

Bucciferro and Kraveta Named Big Ten Baseball Players of the Week

Two baseball players from the state of Illinois have been named Big Ten Players of the Week for the first week of the 2012 Division I baseball season.




Pitcher Tony Bucciferro from Michigan State earned Co-Pitcher of the Week honors throwing six scoreless innings beating nationally ranked St. John's last Friday.  Tony retired the first 13 batters in a row, allowed only one hit and struck out six.  Bucciferro is from Minooka HS and lives in Joliet Illinois.




Illinois pitcher John Kravetz shared Co-Freshman of the Week honors by throwing 6 2/3rd's shutout innings against St. John's to lead Illinois to a win in their final game in the Big Ten/Big East Challenge.  Kravetz allowed two hits and struck out six.  Kravetz attended Mt. Carmel HS and lives in Lansing Illinois.






Northwestern's outfielder Luke Dauch shared Co-Freshman of the Week honors
by hitting safely in all three games at the Big Ten/Big East Challenge.  Luke hit .714 with a double and a triple.

Jeff Holm Named Big Ten Baseball Player of the Year

Michigan State first baseman Jeff Holm became the second Spartan in history to win the Big Ten Baseball Player of the Year award.  Holm ranked second in the conference with a .379 batting average, first in rbi's with 61, second in home runs with 7 and ranked among the leaders in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs scored and hits.

Jeff is from St. Charles North high school and lives in St. Charles Illinois.

Tony Bucciferro Named Big Ten Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Michigan State junior right handed pitcher Tony Bucciferro earned the Big Ten Conference baseball Pitcher of the Week honors by throwing a complete game shutout against Minnesota last Saturday.  Tony struck out two, gave up five hits while earning his 6th win this season. 

In 57 innings this season for the Spartans, Tony is 6-1 with a 2.05 ERA and has 2 complete games.

Tony is from Minooka Community High School and lives in Joliet Illinois.

Kevin Goergen Signs National Letter of Intent With Michigan State Baseball

Go to fullsize imageMichigan State baseball head coach Jake Boss announced Wednesday the signing of eight student-athletes which include Kevin Goergen from Lemont High School.

Goergen is a 6'1'" left handed hitting shortstop under coach Joe Roderghero at Lemont High School.

Boss on Goergen: "Kevin is an outstanding defensive shortstop with plus arm strength. A left-handed hitter who handles the bat extremely well, he reminds me of Jonathan Roof when he was a senior in high school. The potential for Kevin is unlimited and he will be looked upon heavily as a freshman."
