Minooka Wins it's third WJOL Tournment

The Minooka high school baseball team captured it's third WJOL tournament championship defeating Lemont 9-5 at Silver Cross Field Saturday night.  

Minooka scored three in the bottom of the second with a double from Carson Neushwander, an rbi single from Joe Carnagio and a two run single from Dane Colvin.  Minooka added four more in the fourth with a long double from Carnagio, a two run single from Nick Fleischauer and a two run single from Neushwander making the score 7-0.  Left hander Josh Mitchell earned the win and Steve Szymanski earned his second save of the tourney.

Minooka third baseman Joe Carnagio earned the WJOL Tournament MVP honors.


In the third place game Providence defeated Joliet Catholic 4-3

Tony Bucciferro Named Big Ten Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Michigan State junior right handed pitcher Tony Bucciferro earned the Big Ten Conference baseball Pitcher of the Week honors by throwing a complete game shutout against Minnesota last Saturday.  Tony struck out two, gave up five hits while earning his 6th win this season. 

In 57 innings this season for the Spartans, Tony is 6-1 with a 2.05 ERA and has 2 complete games.

Tony is from Minooka Community High School and lives in Joliet Illinois.

Mike Foltynewicz Picked 19th Overall in MLB Draft

Right handed pitcher Mike Foltynewicz is the first Illinois player selected in the 2010 MLB draft going to the Houston Astros as the 19th overall pick.

Fotynewicz a 6'4" 190 lb RHP has been clocked as high as 96 is from Minooka High School in Illinois.

Minooka Tops Lockport For WJOL Baseball Tourney Title

Josh Jimenez starting only for the second time for the Minooka varsity earned the victory going six innings allowing four hits and one earned run as Minooka defeats Lockport 5-2 to capture the WJOL tourament title at Joliet's Silver Cross Field on Saturday night.

Minooka broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth as catcher Nick Capodice doubled and Dan Cooper brought Capodice in with an rbi single and Blaise Grebic homered to put Minooka up 5-2. 

Minooka becomes the first back-to-back champions of the WJOL tourney and brings their record up to 9-1 on the season.
