George Heller and Nat Rohl Named Chicagland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week

Junior pitcher Greg Heller from Trinity International University has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week with a complete game over Dakota Wesleyan last week.  Heller went seven innings gave up only two hits and struck out 3.  Heller (Elgin Illinois) is currently 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA.

Senior infielder Nate Rohl from Judson University earns the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball hitter of the week by hitting .429 with 3 doubles, 3 home runs and 10 rbi's.  Nate lives in Rockford Illinois.

Luke Cassis Named Interim Head Baseball Coach at Trinity International

Luke Cassis will take over as interim head baseball coach replacing former head coach Tom Raven.  Cassis served as an assistant coach under Raven and was responsible for infielders and the strength and conditioning program. 

Cassis is from Wheaton North High School and played college baseball at University of Missouri from 1999-2002.

Kevin Tenney From Trinity International Illinois Named NAIA Baseball Player of the Week

Kevin Tenney from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois has been named as the NAIA National Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending April 25th, 2010.

Tenney, a junior first baseman from San Diego, Calif., hit .813 (13-for-16) with six home runs in four wins last week for Trinity International. He pounded opposing pitchers to the tune of eight extra base-hits (six homers, two doubles) and a slugging percentage of 2.063. He drove in 16 runs and scored nine times. In the 20-10 win over North Central (Minn.), a NCAA Division III school, Tenney went 5-for-5 with two homers, six RBIs, three runs scored and one double. He also had a two-home run day, going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs against Trinity Christian (Ill.) on April 20.


In national statistics, Tenney ranks 10th in RBIs (62) and 37th in total bases (113). He has helped the Trojans win nine of their last 11 games and improve to 28-16 on the season.

Trinity International Baseball Starts off 4-0

The Trinity International Trojan Baseball team swept Goshen College over the weekend down in Florida over the weekend.  Trinity won twice on Friday 11-7 and 5-3 and again on Saturday beating Goshen 8-3 and 10-5.

Up next for the Trojans is LaSierra University on March 5th.

Trinity International University's baseball program will kick off its 2010 campaign on February 25 as they head to Sarasota, FL to participate in the Goshen Invitational.The Trojans will open the season with a four game set against Goshen College (located in Goshen, IN), "With the snow on the ground here in IL, this is a great opportunity for us to open in warmth in Florida," said Head Coach Tom Raven, in his 3rd season.


The Trojans are optimistic about the 2010 season after a solid recruiting class of 16 bolsters a sometimes fickle lineup from a year ago. All 3 outfield positions will see new players beginning in left with Harper transfer Billy Smith, Montreat transfer Steven Collado in center and Morton transfer Anthony Mendoza in right. Newcomer, freshman Alex Winfield will see time as well.

TIU returns veteran infielders led by senior SS Phil Sims, who hit .388 a year ago with a .535 on base %. Pete Miller will split time at 2nd base and 3rd. Miller hit .367 with 51 RBI during the 2009 season. Junior Paul Wilson will see some play time at second and newcomer, freshman Rafael Mendez will back up at 3rd. Grossmont College transfer, Kevin Tenney will start at 1st base and hit in the middle of the lineup. He hit .306 a year ago.

The Trojans return two starting pitchers in seniors Owen Leflar and Drew Wicklund. Both look to hold down the top of a rotation which will feature three newcomers in RHP Anthony Mendoza, RHP Jon Pelles, and RHP Brendan Curletta. Returning junior, Nate Alvarado will see time as starter and relieving. He is coming off a season where he was the Trojans top relief man.

Holding down the bullpen to start the season begins with Waubonsee transfer Greg Hess. Hess struckout 46 in 41 innings last season and looks to give TIU a load of relief work which the Trojans seemed to lack a year ago. Joining him will be returners Nathan Beckman and Bart Castillo, as well as newcomer, Sam Chavez, Paul Grotolueschen and Adam Mills.

Michael O'Leary Signs With ThunderBolts Baseball

The Windy City ThunderBolts’ newest signing is no stranger to the suburban Chicago baseball scene. Michael O’Leary will be joining the ballclub for the ThunderBolts 2010 season. O’Leary is a 23 year old, left-handed pitcher who graduated from Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois.


After earning All-Conference, All-Area, and All-County honors at Carmel  High, he pitched two seasons for the College of Lake County Lancers. Once again, O’Leary proved to be successful and picked up All-Conference and All-District awards. In his career at the suburban junior college; he pitched 128.2 innings with an earned run average of 3.93 and struck out 97 batters.

O’Leary’s next stop was Trinity International University located in Deerfield, IL. He pitched one season there before transferring to the University of Northern Iowa. The UNI Panthers are a Division I program in
the Missouri Valley Conference. In his final season as a college athlete, O’Leary appeared in 16 games and had a record of 2 wins and 4 losses. He sported a 5.11 ERA, while accumulating 25 strikeouts.

When O’Leary takes the field for the ThunderBolts in 2010 it will not be his first time as a Frontier League player. He had a brief stint with the Midwest Sliders last season, while only pitching in 2 games. O’Leary has
had many successful seasons in the Chicagoland area and hopefully next year will be no different. As the 2010 season approaches, he will be calling Crestwood home and trying to help the ThunderBolts win a third
Frontier League Championship.

Mike O'Leary Signs with The Windy City Thunderbolts

CHICAGO, IL - Former Trinity International left-handed pitcher, Mike O'Leary, signed a professional baseball contract with the Windy City Thunderbolts of the Frontier League on Tuesday. O'Leary last pitched for the Trojans during the 1996 season.


Since finishing his college ball, Mike has pitched for Ypsilanti Sliders of the Frontier League during the 2009 season. He also maintains work in baseball through private lessons and assists the baseball program at Trinity.

O' Leary attended Carmel High School in Mundelien, IL. During his years there, he earned all-conference, all-area and all-county first-team selections.

Mike was also an all-conference and all-district pitcher for College of Lake County before transferring to Trinity in the Fall of 1995.
