Western Illinois Baseball drops Southern Utah 4-2 on Sunday

Western Illinois baseball picked up their first conference win yesterday with a 4-2 over Southern Utah in Macomb.

Dan Russell (Henry, Illinois) threw six and a third innings allowing no earned runs on six hits and five strikeouts.  Reliever Seth Fuller (Moline Illinois) picked up the win going two and two thirds with three strikeouts.

Outfielder Ryan Cowhey's double in the seventh drove in two to give Western Illinois the lead for good.  Cowhey (Orland Park Illinois) finished 2-3 with a double, triple and three rbi's.

The Leathernecks moved to 10-17 overall and 1-3 in conference.

St. Francis Baseball Sweeps #20 Judson

The University of St. Francis baseball team disagreed with the #20 ranking of Judson University as the Fighting Saints sweep Judson in a two game set 3-0 and
5-4 yesterday.

In game one St. Francis freshman Adam Panayotovich threw his second shutout in a week going seven innings and allowing only three hits in a 3-0 victory.  Outfielder David Kuhne went 2-3 with an rbi and DH Steve Cservenyak went 1-3 with the other two rbi's.

It took eight innings in game two but Tim Reichert's single drove in Brad Porter for the game winner.  Corey Schultz pitched the final two innings to pick up the win for St. Francis.

Olivet Nazarene Improves to 5-1-1 Sweeping Hannibal LaGrange

The Olivet Nazarene baseball program moved to 5-1-1 in 2012 sweeping Hannibal LaGrange College yesterday in Winter Haven Florida.

In game one Olivet scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead for good winning 5-4.  Jonathan Fightmaster (Bourbonnais, Illinois) pitched 5 2/3rd's innings giving up one earned run on six hits to earn his second win on the season.  Nick Jones singled in two runs in the sixth going 1-2 with 2 rbi's.

In game two Ben Heller struck out 13 batters and allowing only 3 hits over 6 innings to earn the win.  At the plate Daniel Hall went 2-3 with 2 rbi's and Nick Jones was 2-2 with an rbi.

Principia Illinois College Baseball No-Hits St. Louis Christian

Not only is Principia College of Elsah Illinois off to a 3-0 start but three Panther pitchers no-hit St. Louis Christian yesterday.

Luke Ball, Greg Ball and Robbie Nickell combined to throw the no-no as Principia went on to win 10-0.

Luke Ball earned the victory going five innings and striking out seven.  Greg Ball pitched one inning and Robbie Nickell pitched the last two innings striking out three.

Alan Cheatham went 2-5 with 3 rbi's, Spencer Clevenger, Kit Banko and Alistair Brockmeyer went 2-3.

Principia is now 3-0 on the season and play Robert Morris on Thursday March 8th.

Illinois Division I Baseball Weekend Recap

A recap from the opening weekend for division I baseball teams from Illinois.


Bradley went 1-2 in their opening weekend capturing a wind against Kennesaw and losing twice to Virginia Tech.  The Braves one win came from John Nasshan who went 6 2/3rd's innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and struck out four.  Danny Gifford picked up his first save of the season while Max Murphy hit the first home run of his career.





Chicago State opens their 2012 season February 24th against Texas Southern in Houston Texas.


Eastern Illinois came home 1-1 defeating Mississippi Valley State and losing to Jackson State.  Christian Slaznik picked up the win going six innings and striking out six.  Jacob Reese went 3-4 with a double and an rbi and David Ciaglia went 2-4 with a double and a home run.



Illinois came up 1-2 beating St. John's and losing to Notre Dame and Louisville.  John Kravetz earned the win in relief after coming in the game in the 1st inning with one out.  Kravetz went 6 2/3rd's allowing no runs on two hits and striking out 6.  Davis Henderson went 3-5 with an rbi, Kelly Norris-Jones was 2-4 and Brandon Hohl went 2-4 with a home run.



Illinois State came home 1-3 winning the final against Austin Peay 10-1.  Matt Schmitt earned the win going 4 innings and not allowing a run.  Kyle Stanton went 4-5 at the plate and Eric Aguilera hit a three run homer.




Northern Illinois came back 0-3 losing all three to Tennessee.  Alex Beckman went 5-11 with a double and an rbi to lead the Huskies.  Zach Badgley threw 3.1 innings giving up 1 hit and no runs.






Northwestern wound up 1-2 over the weekend beating Pittsburgh but losing to West Virginia and Seton Hall.  Brandon Magallones picked up the win going 4 innings giving up 3 runs and Kyle Ruchim earned the save striking out all three batters in the ninth.  Paul Snieder was 2-5 with 4 rbi's, Luke Dauch went 2-2 with a triple, a double and 2 rbi's and Klye Ruchim went 2-6 with 3 rbi's.



Southern Illinios Edwardsville went 2-1 against Memphis in their opening weekend.  Travis Felax earned the first win going five innings giving up 4 hits and no earned runs.  Devin Caldwell went 2-4 and drove in 2, Adam McClain was 3-4 with an rbi.  In the series final, Brian Lorenz earned the win in relief going 3 1/3rd giving up two hits and no runs.  Thad Hawkins earned the save.  Zach Hawkins was 3-4 with 4 rbi's, Travis Becherer went 5-6 with an rbi.


Southern Illinois Carbondale took 2 out of 3 from North Florida.  Sam Coonrod earned the win in relief and Todd Eaton earned the save.  Austin Montgomery homered going 2-4, Zach Duschinsky also went 2-4.  In the series final Austin Montgomery went 3-5 with 5 rbi's, Zach Duschinsky went 3-6 with a homer, Rennie Troggio went 2-5 with 3 rbi's and Chris Serritella was 3-3 with two doubles.




UIC lost all three against Texas A&M.  In the rough weekend against A&M the Flames only scored two runs and gave up 26.  Alex De Larosa had the lone rbi over the weekend.  Chris Hoffman and Tim Suminski both threw scoreless innings.






Western Illinois finished their opening weekend 1-3 against Georgia State.  Earning the win was Rich Mascheri going 7 innings with no runs on four hits.  Dan Dispensa went 3-3 with 3 rbi's, Austin Cowen was 3-4 with 2 rbi's, Jameson Henning 3-4 and scored 3 times.

Eastern Illinois Baseball downs Illinois

The Eastern Illinois University baseball won the battle of Illinois teams as the Panthers defeated the University of Illinois 10-2.

DH Ben Thoma, Columbia Illinois, went 4-5 with three doubles, three rbi's and scored twice.  First baseman T.J. McManus, Parkland College, Glenview Illinois went 2-4 with a double, 2 rbi's and 3 runs scored.

Sophomore right handed pitcher Troy Barton, Libertyville Illinois, pitched 2 and 1/3rd innings of scoreless relief and got his third win of the season.

Illinois DH Josh Parr, Chillicothe Illinois, had two of the five hits for the Illini.

Eastern ups their record to 13-21 on the season as Illinois drops to 12-20.

Shawnee Baseball Blanks Cobden 1-0


Tyler Gidwell drove in the only run of the game in the first inning with a sac fly and Greg Smith did the rest on the hill as Smith struck out six allowing on two hits and no runs as Shawnee blanks Cobden 1-0.  Shawnee is now 5-2 on the season.

Cubs Thumped on Opening Day in Atlanta

The Chicago Cubs felt comfortable with having Carlos Zambrano take the hill for the seventh straight opening day...well at least up until the Braves came to bat in the first.  Zambrano was lit up by the braves giving up eight runs on six hits in 1 1/3rd innings as the Braves thumped the Cubs 16-5.  About the only bright spot for the Cubs was the a three run dinger by Marlon Byrd in the first.

North Central College Moves to 11-1


North Central College improves it's record to 11-1 and remains unbeaten at home with a double header sweep from the University of Wisconsin-Superior 11-5 and 8-5.  Cardinal catcher Michael Corrigan went 4-4 with a homer, two doubles, a single and six rbi's.  Nate Arenson worked 5.1 innings to move to 3-0 on the season. 

In game two it was Matt Abraham's turn to go 4-4 with four singles and two rbi's.  Micah Yarrough went five innings giving up one earned run his second victory on the season.

Nortwestern Baseball Beat by Stetson on Sunday

Northwestern University tried to cut into the early Stetson lead by scoring two in the top of the third inning.  After two singles and a hit by pitch Paul Snieder singled in two runs to cut the lead 3-2.  In the bottom half of the third Stetson Nick Rickles double scored two and added another on a single that put Stetson up 6-2.  Stetson added two more in the seventh and eighth and a late ralley by Northwestern fell short as Stetson hung on for an 11-5 victory.  Northwestern falls to 6-17 on the season.

Chicago State Baseball Wins it's First for 2010

Chicago State University gets their first win 12-11 over Southern Utah last Friday evening in Palm Beach Florida.  Patrick Hernandez, Albert Carpen and Kevin Hussey all had three hits and two rbi's in the victory.  Albert Carpen also recorded his first collegiate save in the victory.






Aurora Baseball Hands Augustana it's First Loss of the Season

Aurora University scores two in the fifth and three in the sixth to hand #11 Augustana it's first loss of the 2010 season 6-2.  Dan McCarthy went the distance for Aurora allowing two runs on four hits.  Tony Wellner's three run homer in the sixth put the game away for the Spartans.  Wellner finished 3-5 with four rbi's.  Aurora University is now 6-5 on the season and #11 Augustana is now 12-1.

Blackburn College Take First Conference Victory Over MacMurray College

The Blackburn College Baseball Team racked up 21 hits enroute to an 18-1 run-rule victory at MacMurray College on Tuesday afternoon.


Senior Right-hander Ben Eilerman pitched all seven innings for Blackburn striking out 10 while walking just one. Eilerman moved to 1-3 on the season as the Beavers improve to 4-9.

Blackburn scored three runs in the top of the 1st inning, the first two on a two-run single by Jacob Hainsfurther. The Beavers made it 4-0 after two and then blew the game open with an 11-run third inning. The big hits were a two-run homerun by freshman Cody Unser and a three-run homer by Josh Glisson. Unser also had a two-run single in the same inning. Blackburn added two runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh to round out the scoring.





Ryan Burke Throws One Hitter For Hampshire Baseball

Senior Ryan Burke was perfect until a 2 out base hit in the seventh inning spoiled the no hitter as Burke had to settle for a one hit 13 strikeout complete game.  Ryan DeChant doubled to drive in two runs as Hampshire defeated East Aurora 4-0.

Southern Illinois Baseball Wins the Battle of South vs East

Southern Illinois University Carbondale gets three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to win the battle of Southern vs Eastern Illinois.  For Southern Illinois Chris Serritella went 3-5 with a rbi, Tony LePore went 3-4 and Aaron Robert went 2-3 with two rbi's.  Kellen Candau wound up with the victory pitching one inning and Bryant George closed the door in the 9th for the save.  Southern Illinois brought it's record up to 9-12.

For Eastern Illinois Zach Borenstein hit two home runs and collected six rbi's, Gerik Wallsten went 3-3 with Eastern's other two rbi's.  Eastern drops to 4-15 on the season.

Illinois Wesleyan One Hits Illinois Benedictine

Jason Pankau pitched a seven-inning one-hitter in an Illinois Wesleyan 11-1 win over Benedictine Saturday in St. Louis.  Panko struck out 14 and Mike Morrissey had two hits including a home run, Casey McIntosh had two rbi's with a single and a walk.

Anna-Jonesboro Ties and Wins in Extra With Long Ball

Jordan Chamness hit a two-run home run to tie the game in the seventh inning, and David Frank smacked a two-run shot in the eighth to lead Anna-Jonesboro to a 6-4 come-from-behind, extra-inning win over Marion on Saturday morning.

McKendree Baseball Splits with Hannibal-LaGrange


McKendree Baseball starts off the conference schedule with at split with Hannibal-LaGrange losing game one in the bottom of the seventh 5-4 and winning game two 2-1.

Ryan Meyer belted a two-run homer and Daniel Corwin a solo homer in game one and Muren added a two-run homer in game two.  Three pitchers combined for a two hitter in game two Korey Duncan pitched the first five for his second win.
