Joliet Junior College Wins 2012 NJCAA Division III World Series

Joliet Junior College captured it's third national baseball championship defeating Niagara County Community College 6-5 in ten innings yesterday in Tyler, Texas.

Niagara took a one run lead scoring two in the top of the ninth inning with a walk, a sac bunt, a single and a double.  Joliet tied the game up in the bottom of the ninth on an error by the Niagara second baseman.  Dakota Brown's triple in the bottom of the 10th inning drove in Cole Judy for the winning run.

Joliet went undefeated in the Championship Series with a perfect 4-0 record.

Luke Andrade was named the tournament Most Valuable Player and Trevor Vermillian, Casey Papp and Dan Eliopulos made the All-Tournament Team.

NCAA Division III Baseball All-Americans from Illinois

D3Baseball.com announced the 2012 NCAA Division III All-American baseball team yesterday and below are the players from Illinois.

First Team All-American
3B Kevin Callahan, Illinois Wesleyan.  The junior infielder hit .355 with 17 doubles, 11 home runs and drove in 54.  Kevin is from Brother Rice HS and lives in Chicago, Illinois.

Second Team All-American
3B Anthony Even from Concordia.  Even hit .432 with 22 doubles, 2 triples, 2 homers and 38 rbi's.  Anthony is from West Leyden HS and lives in Franklin Park, Illinois.

Pitcher Drew Gay from Aurora University.  Drew went 8-0 with a 1.63 ERA in 77 1/3rd innings, struck out 67 and walked 16 for the Spartans.  Drew is from Marquette HS and lives in Marseilles, Illinois.

Third Team All-American
3B Tim Mackey, Aurora, Tim hit .391 with 5 homers, 19 doubles, 2 triples and drove in 32.  Tim is from East Leyden HS and lives in Rosemont, Illinois

Utility player Drew Golz from Wheaton College, Drew hit .404 with 4 homers, 12 doubles and on the mound Golz went 8-2 with a 2.52 ERA.  Drew attended Oak Park-River Forest HS and lives in River Forest, Illinois.

Pitcher Nick Soldano from North Park, Nick went 9-2 with a 3.12 ERA in 101 innings.  Nick is from Zion-Benton HS and lives in Lake Zurich, Illinois.

Joliet Junior College Baseball Wins first two at Division III World Series

The Joliet Junior College baseball team has won their first two games at the 2012 NJCAA Division III World Series in Tyler Texas.  Joliet defeated Nassau Community College 10-0 on Saturday and Tyler Texas 7-5 on Sunday.


If the Wolves win today's game against Northern Essex Community College they will move into the Championship game on Wednesday.  Today's game is a 7:00 pm and can be watched online at the link below.

2012 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Pairings

The 2012 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament field is paired up after last weekends games.


#1 Seed Indiana State takes on #8 Creighton
#2 Seed Missouri State vs. #7 Bradley
#3 Seed Wichita State vs. #6 Southern Illinois
#4 Illinois State vs. #5 Evansville


The MVC Tournament will be held at Hammons Field in Springfield Missouri hosted by
Missouri State.  The Tournament starts May 22nd when Illinois State takes on Evansville at 9:00 am.  The Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday May 26th at 7:00 pm.

Dietrich Enns Earns MAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week Award

Central Michigan junior left handed pitcher Dietrich Enns earned the Mid-American Conference baseball Pitcher of the Week award for the week ending May 13th.

Enns held Ball State scoreless for 8 innings on Sunday and extended his scoreless innings streak to 17 and 1/3rd innings.  Dietrich allowed only five hits and struck out eight in the 7-0 win.  Enns improved his record to 4-2 with a 1.22 ERA in the MAC.

Dietrich is from Lincoln-Way East and lives in Frankfort, Illinois.

North Park and Illinois Wesleyan Advance to NCAA Division III Baseball Regionals

College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament champion North Park earned the automatic bid into the NCAA Division III postseason tournament by capturing their first conference title since 1990.  North Park will face St. Scholastica on Wednesday 5/16 in Whitewater Wisconsin at the Whitewater regional.

Illinois Wesleyan received an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III post-season tournament.  The Titans will travel to Millington, Tennessee and play Birmingham-Southern at the Millington Regional on Wednesday.

Quincy, Lewis Seeded for the 2012 GLVC Baseball Tournament

Quincy University and Lewis University received the opportunity to participate in the 2012 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Championship May 10th through May 13th at Bosse Field in Evansville Indiana.


Both Quincy and Lewis finished third in their respective divisions in the GLVC.  Quincy finished 19-12 and Lewis finished 21-15 in conference.  


Quincy will start of the tournament against Rockhurst at 11:00 am on Thursday May 10th.  Lewis will play the second game of the tourney against the #1 seed Indianapolis at 2:30 pm. 


Quincy won the 2011 Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Championship with an 8-2 win over Northern Kentucky.


Lewis holds the most GLVC Baseball Championship titles with six.



Charlie Mohr Voted GLVC Baseball Player of the Week

University of Missouri St. Louis junior infielder Charlie Mohr was voted the Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball Player of the Week for the week ending May 6th 2012.


Mohr hit .450 with a homer, a triple, a double and driving in 10 runs on the week.  Charlie finished the week with a .750 slugging percentage.  Mohr is a transfer from Lewis & Clark Community College and lives in Alton Illinois.

Dietrich Enns Earns MAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Central Michigan baseball's junior pitcher Dietrich Enns earned the Mid American Conference Co-Pitcher of the week award for the week ending May 6th 2012.

Enns tossed a three hit complete game 7-0 shutout against Northern Illinois on Sunday in Dekalb Illinois.  Dietrich allowed only three singles, struck out 7 and walked three in his first start since May, 2010.

Dietrich attended Lincoln-Way East and lives in Frankfort Illinois.

Southeast Missouri State Baseball's Senior Kenton Parmley's Hitting Streak Ends

Kenton Parmley
Senior infielder Kenton Parmley from Southeast Missouri State had his 47 game hitting streak come to an end on April 22nd against Tennessee Tech.


Parmley's 47 game hitting streak tied him with Phil Stephenson from Wichita State for the third best in NCAA history.  Robin Ventura holds the record at 58 games.  Kenton now hold the Ohio Valley Conference record by 11 games.


Kenton's streak started back in 2011 where he hit safely in the last 8 games and ended after 39 games in the 2012 season.


Parmley is from Goreville, Illinois.

Judson Illinois Baseball Reaches #16 in Latest NAIA Poll

Judson University baseball moved up to #16 in the latest NAIA baseball poll published May 1st 2012.


Judson is 44-10 on the season and is located in Elgin Illinois.


The Eagles also have a 6 game over Robert Morris in the North Division of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Nicolson and Ortiz earn Northern Athletics Conference Baseball Players of the Week

Jake Nicolson and Uli Ortiz were named the Northern Athletics Conference Baseball Players of the Week for the week ending April 29th.


Rockford College's Nicolson earned Pitching Baseball Student-Athlete of the Week by throwing a complete game shutout against Edgewood last week.  Jake struck out seven and walked one in a 4-0 win.  Nicolson is from Stillman Valley, Illinois.


Benedictine's Uli Ortiz received the NAC Position Player of the Week award for hitting .529 last week.  Uli had 9 hit's, one for extra bases, walked four times and drove in two runs.  Ortiz is from Chicago, Illinois.

Huntley Baseball's Bryan Doherty Throws Second No Hitter This Season

Bryan Doherty
Huntley senior right handed pitcher Bryan Doherty has thrown his second no hitter of the 2012 high school baseball season defeating Dundee-Crown 5-0.  Doherty struck out 12 and walked two tossing 91 pitches in route to his second no-no this season.


Huntley finally broke up the scoreless game in the top of the seventh where they scored their first run on a single, a bunt and another bunt with a throwing error.  The Red Raiders took advantage of the miscues with another single and two more errors by Dundee-Crown to cap off the five run inning.


Bryan's first no hitter was on March 29th 2012, blanking Palatine 10-0.

Rockford Baseball's Daryn Streed Named to D3baseball.com Team of the Week

Rockford junior infielder/pitcher Daryn Streed was selected as the DH for the D3baseball.com team of the week.

Streed earned the spot by hitting .588 with six rbi's, .765 slugging percentage, .611 on base percentage and scored five times.  Against Elmhurst College last week Daryn went 5-5 with a homer.

Joliet's King Get his 900th Career Baseball Victory

King receives the game ball for his 900thWin
Joliet Junior College baseball coach Wayne King Jr. reached his 900th career victory on April 11th, 2012 when the Wolves defeated Harper College 12-4.

King has been at Joliet for 26 seasons at Joliet Junior College and has made 10 appearances at the NJCAA Division III World Series.  King's 1994 and 2008 teams won National Championships.

Behme and Kazmierski Repeat as SLIAC Baseball Players of the Week

Webster University's Isaac Behme and Alex Kazmierski earn St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball players of the week honors.

Behme earned his second Pitcher of the Week award shutout Spalding University 7-0 last week.  Isaac threw a complete game, struck out four and allowed only three hits.  Behme is a freshman from Harrisburg Illinois.

Kazmierski earned his second Hitter of the Week award by hitting .471 with eight hits, two doubles, a triple and a homer last week.  Alex is a junior from Orland Park Illinois.

Forsythe, Wiesemeyer Earn Missouri Valley Baseball Players of the Week

Southern Illinois Cody Forsythe and Illinois State's Ty Wiesemeyer earn the Missouri Valley Baseball Players of the week awards for the week ending April 22nd.

Senior outfielder Ty Wiesemeyer earned the Player of the Week award by hitting .471 and slugging .824 along with an on base percentage of .526 last week.  Ty had 10 rbi's and three extra base hits, including a grand slam, a triple and a double.  Wiesemeyer is a senior at Illinois State University, a transfer from Heartland Community College and lives in Troy, Illinois.


Southern Illinois Carbondale junior Cody Forsythe won the Pitcher of the Week award by throwing a complete game shutout against Creighton last week.  Cody gave up only four singles and a double while striking out five in the Saluki's 4-0 win.
Cody is from Calvert City, Kentucky.

Illinois State Redbird Baseball's Long Named to Stopper of the Year Watch List

Illinois State university's Kenny Long was named to the mid season Stopper of the Year watch list for the National Collegiate Writers Association's Stopper of the Year Award.

Long leads the Redbirds with a 1.40 ERA and seven saves in 25 and 2/3rds innings pitched.  Kenny also has 24 strikeouts with only five walks.

Kenny is a senior from Fox River Grove Illinois.

Heartland Baseball's David Stagg Named Pitcher of the Week

Left handed pitcher David Stagg was named the NJCAA Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 15th 2012.

Stagg earned the honors by throwing a 13-0 shutout over #18 Lincoln College last week.  Stagg struck out 11 batters, gave up only two hits and two walks over six innings.

David is a freshman at Heartland Community College in Normal Illinois and lives in West Des Moines Iowa.

Dercks and Palmer Earn Northern Athletics Conference Baseball Players of the Week

Jimmy Dercks and Eric Palmer were named the Northern Athletics Conference baseball players of the week for the week ending April 15th.

Aurora University freshman Eric Palmer captured the Pitcher of the Week honors went 2-0 last week with a 0.60 ERA in 15 innings last week.  Palmer struck out 12 and allowed only one earned run last week and improved his record to 4-0 this season.  Eric attended East Leyden and lives in Melrose Park Illinois.

Senior shortstop Jimmy Dercks from Rockford College earned the Hitter of the Week by batting .586 with 17 hits last week.  Dercks had eight doubles, a homer and 13 rbi's on the week.  Jimmy also earned the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week earning a spot as the shortstop.  Dercks is from Kaukauna Wisconsin.

Carthage senior Eric Rohe and Wheaton junior Trey Martin earned the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin baseball Players of the Week for the week ending April 15th.

Eric Rohe earned Pitcher of the Week honors by picking up two wins last week.  Rohe threw a complete game 7-0 victory over North Park allowing only three singles in seven innings.  Eric also beat Illinois Wesleyan throwing six innings, giving up three runs.  Eric attended Mundelein HS and lives in Mundelein Illinois.

Outfielder Trey Martin received the Hitter of the Week award by batting .571 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and six rbi's last week.  Trey is from Wheaton North High School and lives in Wheaton Illinois.

Colton White Earns GLVC Baseball Player of the Week

Southern Indiana junior catcher Colton White received the Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball player of the week award for his play last week.

White hit .615 in a three game series against UW Parkside last weekend and reached base at least twice in each game.  Colton also had two doubles, five rbi's and scored five times.  White is leading Southern Indiana in batting average (.364), slugging percentage (.500) and rbi's (28).

Colton is a transfer from Lincoln Land College, attended Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin and lives in Springfield Illinois.

North Park Alum Giovenco at home with The Kane County Cougars

This years Kane County Cougars current roster is carrying only one player from Illinois - North Park alum and right handed pitcher Mike Giovenco.

Giovenco was a 14th round draft pick in 2010 by the Kansas City Royals and was with the Cougars at the end of last season.  Currently Mike has pitched in three games, threw 5 innings and given up one run.

Giovenco is from River Grove Illinois, attended UIC and transferred to North Park in 2009.  Mike was also drafted by the Twins in the 26th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft but did not sign.

Elgin Community College Baseball's Bill Angelo Earns 500th Win

Elgin Community College baseball coach Bill Angelo got win number 500 in the first game of a double header against Morton College today.

Elgin won the first game 12-1 in six innings with a three run homer by Justin Kalusa to end the game by the slaughter rule.  The Spartans also gave Angelo his 501st victory by winning game two 4-3.

Angelo is in his 15th season at Elgin with a personal record of 501-315.  Angelo also played at Elgin in 1990 and 1991.  Congrats Coach!

Bircher, Sivertsen Named Missouri Valley Baseball Players of the Week

Joe Bircher and Jordan Siversten have been named Missouri Valley Conference baseball Players of the Week for the week ending April 8th.


Bradley Senior pitcher Joe Bircher earned the Pitcher of the Week by throwing a complete game 2-1 victory over Missouri State.  Bircher struck out 12 and did not walk a batter in the win.  LHP Bircher is a senior at Bradley.


Southern Illinois Carbondale's Jordan Siversten won the Player of the Week award by hitting .563 with four home runs and 12 rbi's last week.  Six of Jordan's nine hits were for extra bases on the week.  Jordan is a senior at SIU and lives in Richmond Illinois.

Belmont's Matt Hamann Earn College Baseball Insider National Player of the Week

Belmont University senior Matt Hamann earned the College Baseball Insider National Player of the Week honor as the Southeastern Pitcher.

Hamann threw a one hitter against USC Upstate in the battle for first place in the Atlantic Sun Conference.  Matt had a no hitter going into the eighth, allowed one unearned run, struck out four and retired 21 batters in a row.

Matt attended Glenbrook North and lives in Northbrook Illinois.

Brown, Peters Earn College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Baseball Players of the Week

Connor Brown and David Peters were named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin baseball players of the week for the week ending April 8th.


North Central sophomore Connor Brown earned the CCIW Pitcher of the Week honors throwing seven scoreless innings against Illinois Wesleyan last week.  Connor attended University HS and lives in Bloomington Illinois.

Senior Millikin outfielder David Peters hit .421 with a homer, a double, two rbi's and scored eight times last week.  David is a transfer from Lincoln Land Community College and lives in Decatur Illinois.

Illinois Baseball's Roper and Milroy earn Big Ten Player of the Week Awards

University of Illinois baseball's Reid Roper and Matt Milroy earn Big Ten Baseball Players of the Week awards.

Matt Milroy earned the Co-Pitcher of the week award striking out 10 helping Illinois to defeat Indiana.  The junior pitcher earned his first Player of the week award along with his first win of the season.  Matt attended Marmion Academy and lives in Batavia Illinois.

RHP/2B Reid Roper earned the Co-Freshman of the Week award hitting .455 with 2 rbi's and scoring two runs along with pitching a scoreless ninth inning against Indiana last week.  Reid attended Harrisburg HS and lives in Harrisburg Illinois.

Western Illinois Baseball drops Southern Utah 4-2 on Sunday

Western Illinois baseball picked up their first conference win yesterday with a 4-2 over Southern Utah in Macomb.

Dan Russell (Henry, Illinois) threw six and a third innings allowing no earned runs on six hits and five strikeouts.  Reliever Seth Fuller (Moline Illinois) picked up the win going two and two thirds with three strikeouts.

Outfielder Ryan Cowhey's double in the seventh drove in two to give Western Illinois the lead for good.  Cowhey (Orland Park Illinois) finished 2-3 with a double, triple and three rbi's.

The Leathernecks moved to 10-17 overall and 1-3 in conference.

Glenbrook South's Stadler Throws Perfect Game

Glenbrook South senior left hander Sully Stadler threw a five inning perfect game with an 11-0 victory over Schaumburg Wednesday. 

Stadler recorded his first ever or perfect game ever as he struck out 10 along with closing out the game by striking out the side.  Schaumburg committed six errors and Glenbrook South took advantage of them scoring two in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth. 

Stadler also had two run scoring hits.

St. Francis Baseball Sweeps #20 Judson

The University of St. Francis baseball team disagreed with the #20 ranking of Judson University as the Fighting Saints sweep Judson in a two game set 3-0 and
5-4 yesterday.

In game one St. Francis freshman Adam Panayotovich threw his second shutout in a week going seven innings and allowing only three hits in a 3-0 victory.  Outfielder David Kuhne went 2-3 with an rbi and DH Steve Cservenyak went 1-3 with the other two rbi's.

It took eight innings in game two but Tim Reichert's single drove in Brad Porter for the game winner.  Corey Schultz pitched the final two innings to pick up the win for St. Francis.

Sam Travis Wins his Second Big Ten Baseball Player of the Week Award

Indiana first baseman Sam Travis earned his second Big Ten Baseball Player of the Week award and extending his hitting streak to 15 games.

Travis, a freshman at Indiana University, hit .625 in the series against Iowa last week.  Travis hit two homers, drove in seven, scored four times and earned his second straight Player of the Week award.

Sam is from Orland Park Illinois.

Brett Loeding Named GLVC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Northern Kentucky's Brett Loeding was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference baseball pitcher of the week.

Loeding threw seven innings, earned two saves, and struck out 10 batters.  Brett only allowed two hits and two walks and held Southern Indiana to a .091 batting average.

Brett is a transfer from Elgin Community College, attended Prairie Ridge HS and lives in Crystal Lake Illinois.

Minooka Wins it's third WJOL Tournment

The Minooka high school baseball team captured it's third WJOL tournament championship defeating Lemont 9-5 at Silver Cross Field Saturday night.  

Minooka scored three in the bottom of the second with a double from Carson Neushwander, an rbi single from Joe Carnagio and a two run single from Dane Colvin.  Minooka added four more in the fourth with a long double from Carnagio, a two run single from Nick Fleischauer and a two run single from Neushwander making the score 7-0.  Left hander Josh Mitchell earned the win and Steve Szymanski earned his second save of the tourney.

Minooka third baseman Joe Carnagio earned the WJOL Tournament MVP honors.


In the third place game Providence defeated Joliet Catholic 4-3
